oh the joys of life

so,
here i am.
sunday night 8.58 PM (+10 GMT i believe)
drinking a cup of tasty orange juice( not too pulpy, not too sour or sweet..just..perfect? somehow..),
talking to my beloved,
listening to music, (currently some pat metheny stuff)
eating some bulgogi-style beef with rice and a bowl of nice warm tofu soup.
you might think it's some sort of..relaxing sunday night yes?

well..

thing is..

i have..2 sacs to deal with tomorrow..and they are methods prac exam and history (which if you combine them together will NOT go down well with little kids) and i truly believe that they will make my life miserable.

i hate the fact that some people can wing one (or two) of them quite easily, while im having a hard (stiffy..ooh!) time with them. sigh.

and i should add that there are other sacs to contend with for the next month.

i cant believe how people describe year 12 as 'the time of their life'

...which i reckon is a bit of a bullshit. maybe they were forced to say that with the guns pointed to their backs..or they were forced to do it with the threat of having to contend with eating chocolate laced with vegemites for the rest of their lives. who knows..

maybe i'm just cynical and overly critical at this point. a fact which i refuse to admit.

that's my rant of the day. what's yours?

xx.

why bother?

the more you care, the more you understand how helpless you are.
the more you do, the less you receive.
the more you study, the less you remember,
and the more you forget, the less you know.
the more connected you are, the more insignificant you feel.
the more you earn, the more you pay.
the more you try, the more you fail.
the more honest you are, chances are you'll be exploited by others.
the more you remember, the more you cringe.
the more you work, the less you get appreciated.
the more you talk, the more people will hate you.
the more you walk, the more you find yourself wandering aimlessly.
the more you dream, the more depressed you'll get.
the more you pray, the more you condemn god for letting things happen to you.
the more you accept, the more people will reject you.
the more you understand, the less you know.
the more you eat, the fatter you get.
the more you breathe, the faster you die from swine flu and god-knows-what.
the more you laugh, the harder you'll cry.
the higher you go, the harder you'll fall.
the more you go on the ranking ladder, the more work you have to do.
the more you love, the more you get hurt.
and if life is all about hard work, friendship, love, happiness, beauty, and piety, then why is there still injustice in the world?

so

why bother?

A SURVEY of online gamers has shown that more - much more - would prefer sitting in front of a computer or games console than having sex.

modern guilt

For the past 6 months, the world seemed to hold its breath. The times of economic uncertainty which have been long predicted by analysts are here. It gripped many people (some by the balls) from various nationalities and backgrounds. Collapse of corporate giants can only mean one thing; no one is safe.

Funnily, not a single government offer themselves up to take lead in solving the crisis. Most choose to sit back and 'analyse' (in political-speak, it means observing what a person/organisation/government is doing and bag the shit out of it) the current situation. It is very idiotic of them to blame each other for the mess they've caused while it is VERY clear that quick, decisive measures need to be taken.

I do not earn enough to be affected (yet) or have a life/death obligation to support a family. But I want to offer this point of view (feel free to criticize)

The 21st century world had become a materialistic one. We study very hard to secure a university degree which, in turn, does not give a quick and certain secure and permanent career. When we do hit the workforce, we are pushed to slave most of our daily hours to our work. Money is essential to survive in the contemporary world.

We are pushed to slave most of our daily hours at work.

1 in 3 marriages in Australia fails.
We spend less time with our families than our predecessors.
We spend 20% less time sleeping because of our daily routines.
Our debts and spending have grown disproportionately compared to our predecessors 50 years ago.

Perhaps the recession is needed.

We need to take a hard look at ourselves. Do we spend enough time with the family? Are we satisfied on personal level? Are we satisfied mentally?

Growth is a good thing but when that growth becomes too big, it becomes a problem that needs to be taken care of. The recession is the proof that our modern economy is NOT sustainable. We only think of the short term gains rather than looking for the long term gains. Environmental issues are neglected because they are seen as a hindrance to achieving our wants.

Perhaps it is time to cool down and spend more time interacting with other people. Socialise with friends. Spend more time with your loved ones. And reflect on your personal wellbeing, both physically and mentally.

masks pt2.

The most frustrating thing about wearing masks is that sometimes people misjudge you based on assumptions built upon THEIR expectations of us. Sometimes it is hard to expose ourselves in public and show our vulnerable side. We tend to put on a brave face and hide away our guilt, anger, disgust, misery, sadness or even joy at times.

Our actions are constantly compared to social norms and personal standards. When we fall short of these expectations we are often ignored, shunned, rejected and excluded from the society.

Even when our actions are based on good intentions.
Even when we acted inconsiderately on accident.
At times of naivety.
At times of desperation.
In moments of joy.
In moments of sorrow.

Why do we do this?

It seems that..when we get to know someone..we realise that our perception of that person changes.

We know their history, and background.
We UNDERSTAND their decisions and actions.

Ironically it takes a lifetime to understand someone, but it only takes seconds for us to reject someone.

I want to know why you choose to exclude us when we've done nothing wrong.
I want to know why you choose to ignore us when we try to be your friend.
I want to know why you despise us just because we are different from the norms.
I want to know why you shun us when we open our arms to you.

I want you to answer my questions.

I dare you.

You know who you are.

When you look down deep inside, you know you don't hate us.
You know that you are sad.
You are afraid.
You are scared of losing what's dear to you.
Deep down you are still a little child wanting attention and loyalty.

Our actions and decisions do not mean we are not loyal to our friends.
In fact we love our friends.
We won't betray you.
We won't run away from you.
We forgive you and your misperceptions of us.

So
Please
Reconsider your thoughts and judgments of us.
Open your eyes.
And grow up.
We are still your dear friends despite the changes.
We will continue to open our arms to you.
In times of sorrow.
In times of joy.
In times of frustration.
In times of need.

Do not be afraid.

masks

i know i should've been revising for psych.
but
i'm on a 'productive break' =]

we all wear masks whether we realise it or not. i just noticed that, no matter how close 2 people can be to each other, there's still this...entire cosmos hiding in our little heads.

its amazing.

psychology made me realise how...complicated our brain is.

but just ask yourself, what would happen if we have telepathy...

we won't communicate verbally
music is rendered useless
shared knowledge
no individuality

so i guess wearing a mask to hide ourselves is good.

it gives us individuality
we can appreciate arts and music
we have school (sadly)
and we can communicate verbally (or in some cases incoherent body language =P )

haha
im just going around in circles..
but
just need to put it out there =D
and
be 'productive'..

or not..

rant

ffs..
can someone seriously teach me how to play around with html?
whenever they're free..

cuz blogspot is pissing me off with their html-ness..

grr

spur of the moment

It’s 12 o’clock and I can’t sleep.

Why?

Because I’ve got all these ideas that keep popping up in my mind like crazy little firecrackers, so I’ve decided to blog all about it on impulse.

I will release a 5(if i can be bothered to) part series. This one is the first of the many that would come.

Pt.1.

Recently in politics (yes it’s a subject that I do for vce believe it or not) we have been discussing about the impacts of internationalism and globalisation (if you do not know these terms I suggest u ask Wikipedia =P).

I know that many of you would not find these topics as interesting to talk about as I do. However, these topics will, in the long run, impact everyone’s lives and the shape of the world we live in. (gosh that sounded like an introduction of an essay >_>)

And so i decided to rant away my keen interest on the contemporary society.

The concept of internationalism is like that of internet. In a sense, internationalism/globalisation would end up having everyone in the world connected to each other in some sort of way.

I have come to a realisation that we are heading towards some sort of Orwellian utopia – driven by greed.

Greed drives the world around.
Money drives the world around.

Capitalism is fuelled by short term gains (hence the financial crisis, THANK YOU AMERICA). Our possible future destination could be one of American hegemony (again) or god-knows-what. But one thing that I know is that we are heading towards some sort of ‘sheep behaviour’.

The contemporary society has lost its individuality.

We all start to think/want the same things in life (not that I’m saying similarity is bad). I know it’s quite hypocritical of me to say this, but it scares me how us young people generally think of things on the superficial level.

But then again, its an OPINION.

Feel free to criticize/support/comment/talk/wonder/reflect/whateverfloatsyourboat.

If it sounded tad odd, then, my editor-in-chief-in-grammar (aka ally dearest <3)>

Cheerios.

russia on ice

came back from work..fkn tired
o wells

ermm
heres the preview of the new porcupine tree live album i bought?
its called warszawa

credits;
  • Steven Wilson - lead vocals, guitars
  • Richard Barbieri - keyboards
  • Colin Edwin - bass
  • Chris Maitland - drums, percussion, backing vocals

frankly speaking..i havnt actually listened to the studio version of most of the songs on it
but i love it.

the songs arent as 'spacey' as their older works. the bass is prominent, although i'd love to hear more of the keyboards. o wells.

imo gavin harrison is a better drummer. his fluid, effortless intricate drumming is just.. captivating.

i shud've listened to more of porcupine tree's studio albums..but o wells..

rating: 7.5/10

i cbf writing more..
im tired n i cant think properly..
(fob grammar - it took me AGES to even edit wat ive written and in the end..i deleted everything and left 3 lines...)

i shall try post more album reviews..

therefore; recommend them to me =]
